Under CEPA, Hong Kong operators applying clinic license in China is required to submit medical malpractise/professional negligence insurance document approved by Guangdong Health Bureau. Insurance was one of a hot issues in the first and second Seminar held by Food & Health Bureau, HKSAR, Ministry of Health and Guangdong Health Bureau in HK.

The industry understands that Hong Kong medical doctors are covered by MPS with unlimited amount of indemnity and can probably be extended to cover activities in China.

However, the terms of extension and scope of coverage in China operation can be complicated as China hospitals and clinics do not have western style type of medical malpratise and the legal system familar to Hong Kong operators.

On May 27, we have invited Dr. Ming-keng Teoh, Head of Medical Services - Asia, Medical Protection Society, London, to speak on "Professional Support & Indemnity for Doctors – Current Challenges"

The Forum also cover total solution from risk management, insurance arrangement and cross border legal claims.

"Medical Malpractice, Professional Indemnity and Drug Liability as an Integrated Solution for Healthcare Operators in China".

The participants can also meet with the Guangzhou City Health Bureau and other participants to develope business opportunities. They can also meet with the hospital operators in Guangdong, Beijing and Shanghai to cultivate co-operations. More importantly, the Forum is also participated by assistance companies who usually bring patients to medical operators.
